BS in Teaching from Spfld.College, Massachusetts. Learned to spin in New Zealand in 1972 and have been teaching ever since all across the U.S. My specialty is spinning cellulose fibers but I teach all kinds of spinning and all levels. Also I teach beginning weaving from Inkle loom to Four Harness Weaving. I have produced a DVD called Cotton Spinning Made Easy. Since my workshops are designed around the needs of my students and desire of the group hiring me to teach, I do not have “pat” workshops per se. However my web site does list a variety of basic classes and lecutures that I give at guilds and conferences.

Loop of the Loom introduces a unique improvisational style of hand weaving "SAORI," also refered to as Zen weaving. Instead of trying to perfect complex patterns, SAORI weaving encourages one to find harmony with the moment, so that the accidental skipping of threads or the spontaneous integration of contrasting fibers and textures only add interest to the cloth. Students create from tapestries to wearable items such as shrugs, jackets, hats, and bags—instruction using SAORI’s pattern book that borrows from origami (Japanese paper folding).

I was taught to knit and crochet by my German grandmother, who felt these were necessities for my future. I took it one step further and earned a degree in Art, learned weaving and spinning, participated in exhibits and shows and picked up numerous awards and blue ribbons. I've been teaching handspinning professionally for over 4 years, and developed a curriculum covering beginner classes as well as more advanced techniques such as novelty and color-effect yarns. I like to show my students the traditional ways of spinning, and then encourage them to break the rules in whatever ways they can while still creating a stable and useable yarn.
